A strong storm is on the way, with waves of heavy rain and some brief wintry mix expected by this evening.  Improving conditions are expected in time for Thanksgiving.

TODAY

An area of low pressure will approach the region with a warm front, producing increasing clouds in the morning followed by precipitation in the afternoon.  A mix of snow and sleet can be expected for elevations above 1,000 feet that will gradually change over to rain by midnight, while periods of rain can be expected throughout the rest of the region.  The precipitation will be heavy at times.  The frozen precipitation will mostly be limited to accumulation on cold surfaces and will be elevation-dependent.  Most roadways will remain slick and wet but not snowcovered.  Winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-40s to lower 50s over the interior and lower to mid-50s along the coast towards midnight.  See details below on storm impacts.

TONIGHT

The warm front will lift northward with the wintry mix for elevations over 1,000 feet, changing to rain by midnight.  Waves of heavy rainfall can be expected throughout the region.  Winds will veer to the southeast at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts over 30 mph.  Temperatures will hold in the mid-40s to lower 50s over the interior and lower to mid-50s along the coast.

TOMORROW

A strong cold front will pass through the region in the morning, with waves of heavy rainfall exiting the region from west to east.  The skies will clear in the late morning and afternoon.  Winds will back to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid-40s to lower 50s over the interior and mid-50s to lower 60s along the coast for highs around noon, followed by temperatures falling through the 50s, 40s, and 30s in the afternoon and evening.

TOMORROW NIGHT

High pressure will build into the region with clearing skies.  Winds will veer to the west at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast for lows.

THANKSGIVING

High pressure will produce scattered clouds.  Winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

FRIDAY

High pressure will pass to the north of the region with scattered clouds.  Winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

SATURDAY

High pressure will produce clear skies and a few clouds.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-20s over the interior and mid to upper 20s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 30s for highs.

SUNDAY

High pressure will produce scattered clouds.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 20s for lows and lower to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

MONDAY

An area of low pressure will produce scattered showers.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 40s over the interior and lower to mid-50s along the coast for highs.

TUESDAY

A weak trough will produce scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast for highs.
