The stifling heat this afternoon has also helped to instigate the development of thunderstorms from the Poconos to the Delaware River Valley. These thunderstorms will feature intense downpours, frequent lightning, small hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph. A few thunderstorms will reach severe levels with wind gusts up to 60 mph, which can produce wind damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines. The thunderstorms will also help to knock down temperatures from the mid to upper 90s into the 70s and 80s for a short time; however, the humidity will remain.
Thunderstorms will remain a threat throughout the region this evening.
