While much of the region bakes with temperatures soaring into the 90s and a heat index around 100 degrees, portions of the northern interior will get some relieve via showers and thunderstorms.
A stationary front to the north of the region will support waves of showers and thunderstorms through northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, the Catskills, the Hudson River Valley, and Connecticut. These thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent vivid lightning, small hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph. An isolated severe thunderstorm is possible, along with localized urban flooding. Temperatures will fall back into the 80s with these thunderstorms but remain very humid.
Further south, a few isolated thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, especially if an outflow boundary presses south from the thunderstorms to the north. These thunderstorms would likely be weaker but still capable of heavy rainfall, vivid frequent lightning, and wind gusts over 35 mph.
