Strong thunderstorms will finally provide much needed rain and more importantly temporary relief from the excessive heat, but inevitably pose a safety risk of their own.

TODAY

Southwesterly flow continues to bring hot weather to the area. This will likely be the peak heat for much of the interior. An approaching cold front from the Great Lakes will however tighten pressure gradients, allowing for wind gusts over 15 mph by this afternoon. Otherwise, mainly sunny with clouds increasing throughout the day. The entire region with the exception of higher elevations will experience dangerous heat yet again, with temperatures rising into the mid-upper 90s for the interior, mid-upper 80’s along the coast, and upper 90s to lower 100s for the Delaware River Valley.

TONIGHT

Warm and muggy. Low temperatures in the upper 70s are expected across the entire region, with lower 80s in the Delaware River Valley.

TOMORROW

A cold front arrives bringing increasing clouds and late afternoon thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Damaging winds are the main threat.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s for the interior, mid-upper 80s along the coast and low to mid-90s for the Delaware River Valley.

TOMORROW NIGHT

Lingering showers or thunderstorms possible amidst mainly cloudy skies. Temperatures will fall into the upper 50s in the Poconos/Catskills, mid to upper 60s for the rest of the interior, and lower 70s along the coast.

TUESDAY

A cold front settles further south, bringing waves of showers and thunderstorms primarily to the southern portions of our region. Low temperatures will range from the mid 60s over the interior and upper 60s to lower 70s along the coast. High temperatures should range throughout the 80s across the entire region, with the possibility for lower 90s in parts of the Delaware River Valley.

WEDNESDAY

Partly cloudy skies in the morning will give way to cloudy skies in the afternoon. A possibility for an isolated shower or thunderstorm does exist, but once again for the southern most portions of our region.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid-60s over the interior and upper 60s to lower 70s along the coast. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s over the interior and lower 80s along the coast.

THURSDAY

Another cold front arrives, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms to the area later in the day. Low temperatures will range from the upper 60s to lower 70s over the greater interior, and mid 70s for the Delaware River Valley down to the coast. Hotter conditions return with high temperatures of upper 80s to lower 90s for the greater interior, mid-80s along the coast, and mid-upper 90s for the Delaware River Valley and any urban areas.

FRIDAY

The cold front likely slows down resulting in pesky showers and thunderstorms across the region. Low temperatures should range from the mid to upper 60s for much of the region, with lower to mid-70s along the coast. High temperatures ranging in the 80s throughout the entire region are expected, with the hottest of these in and around the Delaware River Valley.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

High pressure will build south into the region allowing for partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures will be slightly cooler than Friday, with upper 70s along the coast, and low to mid-80s away from the coast. Saturday evening remains dry and temperatures fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s for the interior, and mid to upper 70s from the Delaware River Valley down to the coast. Sunday, precipitation returns in the form of scattered showers and thunderstorms due to a shortwave trough. For the time being, it seems this will once again favor the southern portion of our region. High temperatures will should rise into the upper 70s to lower 80s for the entire region.
