While waves of showers and thunderstorms target the Philadelphia metropolitan area, a maritime air mass returns to the New York City metropolitan area.  Improving conditions are expected by the weekend.

TODAY

An area of low pressure will dive through the region with scattered cloud cover and isolated showers over the Poconos, southeastern New York, northern and central New Jersey, and Connecticut.  Meanwhile, a thunderstorm complex will move through southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey with periods of heavy rain, wind gusts over 40 mph, frequent lightning, and hail through the early afternoon.  Skies will clear towards evening.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70s for highs.

TONIGHT

Scattered to broken cloud cover can be expected.  Winds will veer to the north at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 50s over the interior and lower to mid-60s along the coast for lows.

TOMORROW 

A backdoor cold front will stall to the southwest over the region with scattered to broken cloud cover and widely scattered showers.  Winds will veer from the north to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 70s along the coast and lower to mid-80s away from the coast for highs.

THURSDAY

A warm front will lift through the region with areas of fog and low clouds in the morning followed by widely scattered showers in the afternoon and evening.  Winds will veer from the southeast to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-60s for lows and lower to mid-70s along the coast and upper 70s to mid-80s away from the coast for highs.

FRIDAY

A cold front will follow with periods of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.  Temperatures will range from the upper 60s to lower 70s for lows and upper 70s to mid-80s along the coast, upper 70s to lower 80s over the interior, and mid-80s to lower 90s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

An area of low pressure over the western Atlantic will produce scattered cloud cover through the weekend.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the mid to upper 50s over the interior and lower to mid-60s along the coast for lows and upper 60s to lower 70s over the interior, lower to mid-70s along the coast, and mid to upper 70s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the upper 40s to lower 50s over the interior and mid to upper 50s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-70s over the interior and mid to upper 70s away from the coast for highs.

MONDAY

High pressure will produce clear skies to scattered clouds.  Temperatures will range from the upper 40s to the lower 50s over the interior and mid to upper 50s along the coast for lows and upper 60s to lower 70s over the interior and mid to upper 70s along the coast for highs.

TUESDAY

A warm front will approach with increasing clouds through the day followed by scattered showers in the evening.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-50s over the interior and upper 50s to lower 60s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-70s along the coast, mid to upper 70s over the interior, and upper 70s to lower 80s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.
