A cold but relatively calm week is ahead with a trough over the eastern US. Some flakes are possible with weak clipper systems. Eyes are on next weekend for the potential of a more impactful system.

Sunday: Clouds will increase ahead of a weak clipper system that is moving in from the midwest. Scattered snow showers are possible during the afternoon and into the overnight hours. Accumulations of a coating to an inch are possible, especially for northern areas. Highs will rise into the mid-20s to near freezing for northern regions while southern regions range from the upper-20s to mid-30s. Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Lows will fall into the low-10s to upper-10s for northern regions while southern regions range from the low-20s to near 30.

Monday: A mix of sun and clouds is expected in advance of another clipper system that will move in overnight. Scattered snow showers are possible during the overnight hours. Accumulations of a coating to an inch are possible, especially for northern locations. Highs will range from the low-20s to upper-20s for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the upper-20s to mid-30s. Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Lows will range from the low-20s to upper-20s for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the mid-20s to low-30s.

Tuesday: A mostly sunny day is expected in the wake of the clipper system. Temperatures will rise into the upper-20s to mid-30s for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the mid-30s to low-40s. Winds will be from the west at 5-10 mph. Lows will fall into the low-10s to upper-10s for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the upper-10s to mid-20s.

Wednesday: Intervals of clouds and sun are expected as an area of high pressure begins to move in. A few flurries are possible for far northern locations. Temperatures will range from the upper-10s to mid-20s for highs. Winds will be from the northwest at 10-15 mph. Overnight lows will range from the low single digits to near 10 for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the mid-10s to low-20s.

Thursday: Clouds will begin to increase as a cold front approaches the region. Some scattered snow showers are possible. Highs will range from the low-20s to near 30. Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Lows will drop into the mid-10s to mid-20s.

Friday: With the cold front slowly exiting the region, more scattered snow showers are possible, especially for eastern regions. Otherwise, a partly cloudy day is expected. Highs will range from the mid-20s to the low-30s. Winds will be from the west at 5-10 mph. Lows will drop into the low single digits to near 10 for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the low-10s to near 20.

Weekend: An area of low pressure will attempt to develop along the departing cold front but is expected to be too far offshore for sensible impacts at this time. Partly cloudy skies are expected. Temperatures will range from the mid-10s to the low-20s for highs. Winds will be from the west at 10-15 mph. Lows will range from the low single digits to near 10 for the interior while the coastal plain ranges from the upper single digits to mid-10s.
