STEVEN’S THOUGHTS

The same storm producing dangerous severe thunderstorms over the Southern United States will bring heavy rain, embedded thunderstorms, and powerful winds to the region tomorrow morning through tomorrow afternoon.

As a warm front lifts north through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas tomorrow morning, periods of rain can be expected, especially after 4 AM.  The rainfall will be heavy at times.  Winds will veer from the southeast to the south and increase to 15 to 30 mph by daybreak.

The location for severe thunderstorms ahead of the cold front will be to the south of the warm front, which is currently expected to be all of southeastern Pennsylvania, central New Jersey, and southern New Jersey.  Periods of heavy rainfall with sustained winds of 20 mph to 35 mph are expected with gusts of 40 mph to 70 mph.  Severe thunderstorms will be capable of frequent lightning, hail up to 1″ in diameter, wind gusts over 65 mph, and an isolated tornado of F0 to F2 strength.

The warm front is expected to stall over Long Island on westward through New York City into northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania.  Periods of rain and strong wind gusts are expected north of the warm front with sustained winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 mph to 65 mph.

The cold front and occluded front will clear the region between 5 PM to 8 PM tomorrow from west to east with clearing skies and subsiding winds after sunset.
