Rain and snow are on the way for this afternoon on through tonight, however, the weekend is setting up to be dry and pleasant.

An area of low pressure will approach this afternoon with increasing clouds through the morning followed by periods of showers this afternoon and evening.  Winds will be from the east at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-40s for highs throughout the region.

Tonight, as the low-pressure system departs, periods of showers will mix over to snow showers over the higher elevations while a mix of rain and snow can be expected along the coast.  Snowfall accumulation of a trace to 2″ will be limited to elevations above 700 feet in the Poconos and Catskills, mostly on cold surfaces.  The precipitation will exit the region by tomorrow morning.  Winds will back to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid-30s along the coast.

High pressure will build into the region tomorrow with clearing skies expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-40s for highs.

High pressure will pass over the region on Sunday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Winds will develop out of the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the mid to upper 20s for lows and upper 40s to mid-50s for highs.

High pressure will exit on Monday with scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures will range from the mid-30s to lower 40s for lows and mid to upper 50s on Long Island and lower to mid-60s elsewhere for highs.

A cold front will move through on Tuesday with scattered showers in the afternoon and evening.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the lower to mid-40s over the interior and mid to upper 40s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 50s over the interior and lower to mid-60s along the coast for highs.

High pressure will produce clear skies to scattered cloud cover on Wednesday and Thursday.  Temperatures on Wednesday will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for lows and upper 40s to mid-50s for highs.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and mid to upper 40s for highs.
