Active Week Of Weather On The Way

February typically is a stormy month for the northern Mid Atlantic and the first week of the month will certainly live up to those expectations.

A stationary front and waves of low pressure will produce cloudy skies through this evening.  An isolated shower is possible but not likely.  Winds will be from the west at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-50s over the interior and mid to upper 50s along the coast.

The stationary boundary will waver over the region tonight through tomorrow with overcast skies and isolated to widely scattered showers.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures tomorrow will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to mid-40s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 50s for highs.

The cold front will sag south on Wednesday with scattered to broken cloud cover and a few isolated to widely scattered rain and snow showers.  Winds will veer to the north at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows and mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for highs.

An area of low pressure will approach the region on Wednesday night through Thursday morning with snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the north and northwest of the major cities and periods of rain along the coast.  Significant ice accumulation is a threat to northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, the Hudson River Valley, and Connecticut.  All locations will go over to rain by Thursday afternoon and evening.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid-30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows and upper 50s to lower 60s for highs.

Showers will linger on Friday morning followed by clearing in the afternoon and evening.  High pressure will be in control on Saturday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures on Friday will fall through the 60s and 50s early in the morning into the 40s and 30s by evening.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and mid-30s to lower 40s for highs.

An area of low pressure will develop off the coast on Sunday with periods of snow over the interior, a wintry mix for the major metropolitan areas, and rain for southern New Jersey.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower to mid-20s over the interior and upper 20s to mid-30s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-30s over the interior, upper 30s to mid-40s in the major metropolitan areas, and upper 40s to lower 50s for southern New Jersey.
