...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 11 AM EDT
THURSDAY...
...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THURSDAY TO MIDNIGHT
EDT THURSDAY NIGHT...

* LOCATIONS...Southwestern Suffolk and Southern Nassau.

* TIMING...For the Coastal Flood Warning, from 5 PM Thursday to
midnight EDT Thursday night. For the Coastal Flood Advisory,
from 5 AM to 11 AM EDT Thursday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Impacts should worsen with each
successive high tide cycle into Thursday evening and possibly
into Friday. For tonight, brief minor flooding of the most
vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline is
possible. For Thursday morning, there is a low threat of
property damage, with shallow flooding in the most vulnerable
locations near the waterfront and shoreline, and around 1 to 2
feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable
areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots,
parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the
waterfront will experience shallow flooding. For Thursday
evening, there is an elevated threat of property damage, with
widespread flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and
shoreline, and 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in
low lying, vulnerable areas. This will result in numerous road
closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property
including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with
basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable
areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding
will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers
  and bays.

* SHORELINE IMPACTS...The combination of elevated water levels and
large breaking waves will cause beach flooding and erosion on
  the oceanfront.

* OUTLOOK...The elevated threat of property damage, with
widespread flooding and 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground
level, could continue for multiple high tide cycles into Friday
  night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is expected or
occurring. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and
property.

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
