...COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THURSDAY EVENING...

* LOCATIONS...Southwestern Suffolk and Southern Nassau.

* TIMING...Localized minor flooding is possible during the
evening high tide cycle. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 5
AM to 10 AM EDT Thursday. For the Coastal Flood Watch, Thursday
evening. Additional coastal flooding is possible during
  subsequent high tide cycles.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...For this evening, brief minor flooding
of the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and
shoreline, with less than 1 foot of inundation above ground
level. Widespread minor flooding is then expected Thursday
morning with with around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground
level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying
property including parking lots, parks, lawns and
homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will
experience shallow flooding. There is the potential for moderate
coastal flooding Thursday evening with 2 to 3 feet of inundation
above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. This would
result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding
of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and
homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles
parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely
  become flooded.

* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves will result in beach
  flooding and erosion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are could to develop. Coastal residents should be alert
for later statements or warnings, and take action to protect
property.
