8/27/13. Wanted to quickly touch on the flow aloft. Some models 2 weeks ago were calling for widespread upper 80s and 90s in the Northeast into New England for last weeks time frame. Didn’t happen. Local 90s popped up but not even the south saw widespread 90s.
Last week some runs were showing the same and I wasn’t buying it especially seeing a Ridge in the Central U.S. The core of the heat is from South to North from Texas to Canada.
What this does is create a NorthWest flow into the East. New England especially has seen the benefit of this flow. It does not support Hot temps. Seasonable at best.
Here’s a comparison of the flow at 500mb from July 3rd last month to todays. Clearly see which supports Hot temps.
I’ll post an August review when data is finished for the month. (probably around the 2nd of Sept). So far 80% of August in the East has had temps that are September like, not Summer of August.
70s in New England in August with leaves changing colors here and there and NW to NE wind ;it’s been an easy August to get through.
